Falcon Trail AFA

12.70 Miles 1:40:26 7:54 average per mile
10:30 am) Sunny Warm!
Elevation Gain: 1,410 ft
Elevation Loss: 1,406 ft
Min Elevation: 6,643 ft
Max Elevation: 7,408 ft
Only the second time I've run on these sweet trails! Last time
I ran here was last November with my friend Rich who no longer
lives in Colorado. We averaged 8:34 per mile so pretty happy
to average 7:54 today with the heat and tired legs from last
nights Incline. I would run here more but it's kind of a drive
for me and you can't enter through the south gate anymore
making it even further for me.
Thinking this would be great for a long run 2 loops. That would
be a work out for sure. I might do that soon if I don't race
Labor Day.

Great time on that trail Brad! You can get on the trail in Peregrine off of Blodgett Drive and not have to go in through the north gate. It makes around a 17 mile run, with a little grunt coming back out but a great run!

Thanks Steve for the info. Not sure how to get to the location you mentioned. Can you give me some more details? I live off Uintah & 17th Street on the west side.
Thanks!

Brad - North on Centennial until it turns into "Old Woodmen" up the long hill past Blodgett Peak Open Space. Blodgett Rd is a horseshoe shaped road, so pass the first one then turn left over the rise at the second entrance. It is a steep hill you will be driving up. About 1/2 mile up, watch for a clearing on the right with a dirt road next to a water tank. Park along Blodgett, take the dirt road to the AFA boundary gate and cross through. Take the first trail down to the right into a clearing, bear slight left to a horse gate, and take that road downhill around a mile until a big horse gate on the right - very distinct. Go through the gate, straight downhill on the singletrack and bear right above the reservoir. Go about 1/2 mile then over a ridge to the left drops you down to Falcon Trail along a paved road. You will know where you are at that point. Follow your steps back out, remember that you have almost 2 miles out when finishing the loop, mostly uphill. Finish with about 17 miles. Let me know if you need more details.

BTW, Bob over at www.farrunner.com has a wealth of local trail info, including driving directions, maps, topographical info, etc. - I think he has a map for the "Blodgett-AFA" segment.

We would offer to tour guide, but don't think you would want to run that slow for that long!!!

Steve, Would love to run this with you. Maybe we can do it early October? Weekday mornings is best for me. How about you?

We'll have to check that out Brad - I work 7:30-5:30 week days but might have a day or two early October that we could swing it.
