Going into this race I knew it would be hilly but it was beyond what I
thought. We drove the course on Friday so that was good so I could be
prepared for what I was getting myself into. This course was probably
the hardest road marathon I have run. This would explain why 2:55 won
it last year. This year the course record was broken 2:44:50 a 25
year old from Boston. The course was beautiful. It runs through the
Mad River Valley. Lots of family farms along the course. Miles 2 & 9
were by far my slowest of the day 7:31 and 7:47. I'm not used to seeing
that kind of a mile split in a road marathon. I was kind of freaking out
when I saw those splits. I was happy to run strong all day and never
bonked unlike my last marathon where I bonked at mile 19.
So check Vermont off the list. Illinois here I come in October.
Chicago should be marathon #40. I will train very hard for this one as
I will be shooting for a PR!
