Wrightstown Bike Ride

28 Miles 1:30 18 mph avg.
9:00 am) sunny 50's
Rode with the Ryan group. Was around 25 of us.
First time in two years I have rode my road bike.
I had to wipe of the dust and pump up the tires. I
did pretty well considering I am not in biking shape.
I kept up with the group the whole ride. The seat
got a little uncomfortable towards the end. I will
have to get used to that again.
My injury felt fine. Biking does not seem to aggravate
it. My quads will probably be sore tomorrow. It was fun
to get in some exercise and talk with friends. I will
do this again.

Gold's Gym

30 Minutes Stationary Bike 9.5 Miles
15 Minutes Weight Lifting
10:00 am)
Well I'm not getting any worse but not any better either.
I called doctors office today. Need to know what is going
on so I can fix this. Secretary said the doctor is pretty
booked up next week but will call me Monday and let me
know when the soonest I can get in.

25 Minutes Stationary Bike

20 Minutes Weights

Feeling better. I actually ran a little very slow though.

Gold's Gym

25 Minutes Stationary Bike
20 Minutes Elliptical
15 Minutes Treadmill 15% Incline walking 3.5 mph
6:00 pm)
Well at least I got some kind of a workout in.
This was a good little workout. I got a good sweat
going. I still have pain in the buttock region but
seems a little better today. I have been doing a lot
of stretching the past few days. I am trying to stretch
the Piriformis muscle and Sciatic nerve. I think this is
my problem. I have seriously been considering making a
doctors appointment but I might wait a couple more days
and see what happens. I'm hoping the stretching I'm doing
will make it better. I don't plan on running until I'm
certain it's much better. What I did today was very low
impact unlike running and does not seem to aggrevate
the injury too much. I iced afterwards and it feels
pretty good. So as long as I can do something to keep my
fitness up I'm happy.

Hurting

Tried to run today. Made it a half mile and had to stop. I have
sharp pain in the lower back region on the left side. Not sure
what to do. I think I might have to go and see a doctor soon if
it does not improve. What a bummer. I can't stand not running.
I have not had anything like this in the past so I don't know
what to do. I think it's either a pinched nerve or a pulled muscle.

Gold's Gym

20 minutes elliptical
20 minutes weight training upper body
7:00 pm)
Not running yet. My injured area is still very sore. I'm
walking much better today. Not ready to run but figured
elliptical would not aggravate it too much and I was correct.
Maybe Saturday I will try a run will see.
Tomorrow is the post marathon party so I will go to that and
socialize with my fellow running buddies.

Recovering

Well it's the day after. I can hardly walk but seem to be
getting better. I took the day off from work today since
I would not have been able to do my job. Hoping I can give
it a go tomorrow. My plans are just to take some time off
and hope to recover. When I do start running I'm going to
do slower paced runs for a bit. Then I will add miles but
still keep it easy. I want to build up my mileage again
and then worry about speed. I have till July 25th before
my next important race. So a little break will be good.
Even though yesterday was not what I hoped for my motivation
is as high as ever. I wont let one sub par run derail my
future plans and goals. I will learn from it and move on.

Cellcom Green Bay Marathon

2:56:49 26.2 6:45 average per mile
7:30 am) upper 30's at start sunny
43rd overall 2nd in age division.
No PR today. I felt good for the first 15 miles. At half
way I was 1:23:03 right where I wanted to be. By mile 18
my pace fell of drastically. At mile 15 I felt my hip lower
back area act up. This definitely affected my stride. I
fought through it but it slowed me. I struggled to run
7:30's from mile 18 on. I'm disappointed with this outcome
but it is what it is.
When I finished I was in bad shape. I couldn't stand. I
got stiff very fast. I laid down and when I tried to get
up and walk I couldn't. I finally walked baby steps back
to the car. I got home showered and iced the area. It is
much better now. I still have a problem walking though.
I have been taking IBUPROFEN and it seems to work. Tomorrow
should be a fun day at work not. Looks like I will take a
few days off from running. I need it anyway.
On other news my mom did her first ever 5k today. She did great.
My niece also did the 5k and did well also. My brother finished
the marathon even though he should not even be running. He has
a torn meniscus and needs to be operated on. So lots of family
participated today and it was a good day.

Fox River Trail

4 Miles 27:36 6:53 average per mile
147 average HR
1:20 pm) 70 degrees partly sunny
Took a half day today. So I got in my run after lunch.
Last run I will do before marathon Sunday. I'm feeling
good. Ready to Rock & Roll.
This evening I'm going to pick up my bib # and walk around
the expo. Tomorrow is a sit around the house day and take
it easy. Big pasta dinner tomorrow night at Lambeau. Sunday
is looking good weather wise. The only thing is it might be
a little cold at the start. Upper 30's low 40's. Better than
being hot though.

Wednesday, May 13, 2009

Fox River Trail

6 Miles 6:40 average per mile

Did 2 - 1 mile repeats the first had some head wind

Well as they say the hay is in the barn now. Only thing
left is to prepare mentally for race day.

Fox River Trail

10 Miles 1:09:30 6:57 average per mile
9:35 am) mid 40's drizzle
150 average HR
Woke up at 5:30 it was raining so did not run with the
7:00 training group. I waited for it to let up. So Mike
and I ran together. It drizzled off and on for the first
5 miles then it quit. Just a few more easy runs before
next Sundays marathon. Here is what I will do.
Monday- 7
Tuesday- 6
Wednesday- 5 with 2 1-mile repeats.
Thursday- Off
Friday- 4 easy
Saturday- Off
Sunday- !!!Marathon!!!
I checked the extended forecast it shows rain. Not Good.
Hopefully it will change by then. It usually does.
I have a time goal for this marathon but you never now
what will happen on race day. I have a A plan B plan and
a C plan.
A Plan is 2:45
B Plan is 2:48
C Plan is 2:49:59
oh and I guess a D plan as well. 2:53:54 or better for new PR.
Hope it does not come down to a D plan though.

Lambeau

7.75 Miles 53:00 6:50 average per mile
5:15 pm) 70 degrees partly sunny
Parked at Lambeau field parking lot and ran some of
the marathon course with Mike. It was nice running
some of the course since I have not run any of it
since last years race.

West De Pere High School Track

6.5 Miles
5:30 pm) warm 70 degrees
Track workout
3 x 1000's and 3 x 800's
1000 - 3:24:53
1000 - 3:22:59
1000 - 3:17:55
800 - 2:38:16
800 - 2:39:82
800 - 2:39:74
Last track workout before the marathon. I felt good on the
1000's but not so good on the 800's. It was warmer this week
than past weeks so I think that made my breathing a bit more
labored. Plus I forgot to take some water with me so that
didn't help.

Tuesday, May 5, 2009

Gold's Gym

6 Miles 42:28 7:05 average per mile
6:00 pm)
First time on the mill in like 2 weeks. I was hot. It seemed
very warm inside today. It was not an easy run. For a 7:05
mile average it seemed tough. I'm glad I do marathons outside
and not inside on the mill. I don't think I would make 26.2
miles.

West De Pere High School

12 Miles 1:21:26 6:47 average per mile
7:00 am) 40's sunny
Felt good today. We started real easy then picked it up
for the last few miles. The weather was very nice a little
windy but not bad. Two weeks and one day till race day. I'm
in major taper mode. I have nothing over 10 miles planned
between now and May 17.
